Reception Mini Write & Year One Big Write

Reception

This week I would like you to design a postcard from London – pretend you have visited our capital city like Paddington! I have created a sheet for you to write your postcard on or you may wish to use a piece of card or paper that you have at home.  You will have to draw the front of your postcard, this should be based on London.  Maybe on the front of your postcard you could draw a London landmark you would like to visit if you went to London.  This could be the London Eye, a boat trip on the River Thames, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben or anything else you can think of.  Then I would like you to have a go at writing your post card. You will need to choose who you are writing your postcard to and then you might want to write a short message. Your postcard could look something like this:

To ______ (you choose who you are writing it to)

I am having so much fun in London.  I have visited ____________.  It was __________.

Love From _______ (your name)

Year One

Our last London focused Big Write! You too have been on a trip to London just like Paddington!  What did you do there? Think of your learning about Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and London in general etc. Maybe you went on the London Eye and looked at the amazing view over London, maybe you went on a boat down the river Thames or maybe you went on a big red bus tour of the giant city. Be creative and use your imagination! There are lots of videos of London on YouTube so you could always use these as inspiration https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wt3dVSkfVbA

I have attached a planning sheet to support you with your writing so please complete this first - remember your plan does not have to be in full sentences, it is just to get your ideas on paper. After you can write up your postcard; I have attached a template you can use (you can draw a picture of London on the front too!) or you can write directly into your home learning books. Please keep your writing neat and think about how we would expect you to work/present your work at school. Remember to use capital letters, full stops, finger spaces, conjunctions and adjectives. I wonder if any of you can add a question?

Afternoon activity for Reception and Year One – Make a miniature Garden or Take a Peak at London Zoo

Miniature Garden

If you would like to, have a go at making your own miniature garden (I have attached a sheet to give you lots of ideas).  Can you find some wild plants or garden flowers to use in your garden? (check with your grown up first – collect the bits you will use together!)  Can you remember the names of the plants you use?  You can use stones to make paths or sticks to make mini trees threaded with leaves.  Maybe you could find a small container or foil dish and add a pond to your miniature garden.

Have a look around London Zoo using this link https://www.zsl.org/zsl-london-zoo/virtual-london-zoo.  I am going to read you another story this week about Paddington Bear visiting the zoo - all the animals eat his marmalade sandwiches!  Have a look at some of the webcams - I love the meerkats!  Maybe draw a picture of your favourite animal or learn a fun fact about them!  If you prefer to carry on bug hunting from last week I have also attached a bug hunt tick list that you may like to do (courtesy of London zoo!)

I would love to see pictures of your miniature gardens if you choose to make one.  I used to love making them when I was a little girl – a very long time ago!

Enjoy your work today!  Take care, enjoy the sunshine and keep smiling

Love Mrs Payne
