Hello Owls and Owl Class parents!

Wow – we’re almost there!  I hope you are all well and it is great to say that all Owls in Reception and Year One continue to work hard and always give their best!  Thank you for returning reading books and reading records last week – NO new reading books will be issued as from now because we are in the process of restocking our shelves and assigning new books to the children ready for September.  I would be grateful if you could check whether you have any of our ‘recommended read’ books  at home, we are missing 5 books.  The titles are:

Book 9 A Great Big Cuddle: Poems for the Very Young by Michael Rosen & Chris Riddell

Book 10 Naughty Bus by jan & Jerry Oke

Book 13 All Join In by Quentin Blake

Book 22 Oi!  Get off our Train! By John Burningham

Book 30 Blue Monster Wants It All! By Jeanne Willis & Jenni Desmond

Reception Owls in school will need to bring their trainers or daps tomorrow morning for PE with Mark Gunning.  Year One Owls enjoy PE with Mark every Monday afternoon.  Just a few reminders if you are learning at home:

MATHS – White Rose https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/. This week, learning is on the story of ‘The Dinosaur that pooped a planet’. (sounds good fun!)

Keep counting in 2s, 5s and 10s (using previous links/ideas) https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/paint-the-squares

Odd and Even numbers – Even numbers are the counting in 2s numbers.  Use the link above to hi-light in different colours (up to 20) odd numbers (end in 1 3 5 7 9) and even numbers (end in 0 2 4 6 8)

Learn by heart doubles and halving https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jOzhiACB68 (check your child knows them by asking them doubles in a random order) We are now using this knowledge to learn halving e.g., if double 10 makes 20 half of 20 is 10…if double 7 is 14 half of 14 is 7, etc.  Keep practising quick recall of facts!

Ordinal Numbers – this week we are learning all about ordinal numbers e.g., 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.  Maybe you could learn by having some running races in the garden at home!

Doodlemaths – practise as much as you can!

PHONICS - YR St Peters Phonics Phase 3 Mastery Lesson  26 er  Phase 3 Mastery L3 w  Phase 3 Mastery L2 v   Phase 3 Mastery L1 j  (after lesson 26 we have completed phase 3 and the next lessons are just revisiting and revising)

Y1 St Peters Phonics  Phase 5 Mastery L4 ea  Phase 5 Mastery L5 oy  Phase 5 Mastery L6 ir

For the remaining weekly phonics sessions, DFE Letters and Sounds daily sessions (live from 10am for YR and 10.30am for Y1) can be used by clicking on the link https://bit.ly/34KsiFS and then the relevant daily video.

Reception are now working comfortably in Phase 4 phonics and Year One working in Phase 5.  Keep using https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources  as an excellent learning resource.

READING – Please keep reading over the Summer holidays either using Oxford Owl or favourite books at home

BIG WRITE – we will be planning our writing to write fun facts about Jellyfish and watching short clips to see what we can learn!

TOPIC – choose two activities from the learning grid each week.  This week we will continue to make our paper plate seagulls and paint our paper mache islands…they have dried at last!  Please feel free to also choose your own activities such as cooking, arts and crafts, gardening, singing and music, PE with Joe, yoga, walking, etc.  Work hard, keep smiling and take care.

Have a lovely week and I’ll email you again next Monday…our last week!

Much love Mrs Payne
